Learning a foreign language is always a challenge for students and it may cause them
learning anxiety in some cases. In addition, teachers must approach the process of teaching
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) as a challenge as well. This is one of the reasons why
teachers should search new and different methodologies or practices for enhancing and
motivating students to succeed in the process of learning a foreign language.
Technology is the engine that makes our world spin nowadays and its implementation
in the field of both teaching and learning needs to be considered. The Multimodal Approach
seeks to foster the interest and creativity of the students through audiovisual aids that
contribute to the achievement of the learning process. This project presents how the use of
audiovisual materials enhances the motivation of the students in an EFL classroom as well as
the role the teacher will assume during this process.
This paper entails different sections: to begin with, a brief introduction in which the
research questions will be presented to be later examined. Secondly, a theoretical framework
to provide the necessary context for the Multimodal Approach, the use of video and audio
materials in the English language classroom, the role of the teacher in an EFL classroom and
the assessment and feedback. Then, a detailed section of the implementation of the Didactic
Unit in an EFL classroom can be found. At the end, a section with the results gathered to
determine the level of success will be revised and, finally, a personal conclusion will be
provided. [-]
