The aim of this article is to compare The Magdalene Sisters and Rabbit Proof Fence, two films released in 2002, which exemplify a multicultural world that will be explained through postcolonial theory. These films will give voice to those who were silenced because they were différents in a Derridean way and due to their incongruence with what is supposedly desirable. The films will show, through their plots, that patriarchy has prevented women from speaking up as it has ostracised them and confined them to spaces where they have been unable to become free. We will also deal with the negative influence of the Christian Church and its insistence on an ideal of feminine purity. The films show this expectation both through their plots and artistic devices: music, spaces, shots and colours will show the arbitrariness of their unique point of view. [-]
