Listening plays an important role in everyday communication. Yet, despite its significance in language learning contexts, listening has remained the least researched skill for far too long. Nevertheless, in the past decades, it has called the attention of various scholars who have conducted different investigations on the topic of teaching the listening skill from different perspectives. This master’s dissertation (MD) adopts a communicative perspective (Celce-Murcia, 2007; Royce, 2007) and integrates the topic of multimodality in listening practices (Lim, 2018). The main aim of the present MD is to create a series of listening teaching materials to enhance secondary English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners’ listening comprehension and multimodal literacy from a communicative perspective. This MD is structured as follows. It first provides a review on the listening skill in the areas of second/foreign languages (SL/FL). This includes the role of textbooks, the concept of listening, the different input processing modes, the pre-, while- and post- format and finally the role of multimodality and authentic materials in the teaching of listening skill. This is then followed by a teaching proposal that has been designed considering the abovementioned aspects. Finally, this MD concludes with a discussion and a conclusion that includes the main important aspects of the proposed materials, the limitations of the teaching proposal, as well as the further research on this topic.ca_CA
