In this way, we identified 1-methyltryptophan (1-MT), a natural compound produced by tomato plants in response to Pseudomonas syringae attack, whose application by soil drench provided protection against this pathogen. In the present work, we have studied the mechanisms underlying this protection. The results demonstrated that 1-MT can be considered a new activator of plant defense responses that acts by inhibiting the stomatal opening produced by coronatine (COR) and could thereby, prevent bacteria entering the mesophyll. Besides, 1-MT acts by blocking the jasmonic acid (JA) pathway that, could avoid manipulation of the salicylic acid (SA) pathway by the bacterium, and thus hinder its growth. Although the concentration of 1-MT reached in the plant did not show antimicrobial effects, we cannot rule out a role for 1-MT acting alone because it affects the expression of the fliC gene that is involved in synthesis of the flagellum. These changes would result in reduced bacterium motility and, therefore, infective capacity. The results highlight the effect of a tryptophan derivative on induced resistance in plants.

In this way, the composition of the apoplastic fluid could represent an important layer of defense that plants can modify to avoid the attack. In this study, we performed a proteomic study of the apoplastic fluid from plants treated with the resistance inducer 1-methyltryptophan (1-MT) as well as infected with Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato (Pst). Our results showed that both the inoculation with Pst and the application of the inducer provoke changes in the proteomic composition in the apoplast enhancing the accumulation of proteins involved in plant defense. Finally, one of the identified proteins that are overaccumulated upon the treatment have been expressed in Escherichia coli and purified in order to test their antimicrobial effect. The result showed that the tested protein is able to reduce the growth of Pst in vitro. Taken together, in this work, we described the proteomic changes in the apoplast induced by the treatment and by the inoculation, as well as demonstrated that the proteins identified have a role in the plant protection.

However, our interest lies in tracing, comparing and understanding what may be the variation of these constructions in scientific writing, and in their different chronological layers, analysing different scientific disciplines included in the Coruña Corpus of English Scientific Writing (CC hereafter). As this proves to be a long-term objective, the aim of this paper is to study the use of complex predicates in only one of these disciplines. To this end, some texts included in the 18th century Life Sciences discipline of the CC have been analysed. Linguistic and extralinguistic information has been taken into account. Finally, the use of complex predicates and related verbs made by the scientists in question has been compared
- ArtículoAcceso restringido1H-1,2,3-Triazol-5-ylidenes: Readily Available Mesoionic Carbenes(American Chemical Society, 2018) Guisado-Barrios, Gregorio; Soleilhavoup, Michele; Bertrand, GuyClassical carbenes are usually described as neutral compounds featuring a divalent carbon with only six electrons in their valence shell. It was only in 1988 that our group prepared the first isolable example, in which the carbene center was stabilized by a push pull effect, using a phosphino and a silyl substituent. In the last 30 years, a myriad of acyclic and cyclic push pull and push push carbenes, bearing different heteroatom substituents, have been isolated. Among them, the so-called N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), which include cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbenes (CAACs), are arguably the most popular. They have found a vast number of applications ranging from catalysis to material science, and even in medicine. In this Account, we focus on the synthesis, structure, electronic properties, coordination, and applications of a different class of stable cyclic carbenes, namely, 1H-1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidenes. In contrast with NHCs and CAACs, these compounds have no reasonable canonical resonance forms that can be drawn showing a carbene without additional charges. According to the IUPAC, they belong to the family of mesoionic compounds and thus they are named mesoionic carbenes (MICs). In 2010, we prepared the first stable 1,2,3-triazol-S-ylidene, via a CuAAC reaction, followed by alkylation of the resulting 1,2,3-triazole, and deprotonation. Later, we synthesized more robust N3-arylated counterparts from 1,3-diarylated-1H1,2,3-triazolium salts. Both synthetic routes can be carried out in multigram scales, making these MICS readily available. Importantly, MICs do not dimerize which contrasts with NHCs that can give the corresponding Wanzlick-type olefin. This property leads to relaxed steric requirements for their isolation; even C-unsubstituted MICs can be stored for months in the solid state at room temperature. The practicality and easily scalable syntheses of MICs allow for the preparation of polycarbenes, such as bis(1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidenes) (i-bitz), the analogues of the well-known 2,2'-bipyridines (bpy). MIC-transition metal complexes are excellent precatalysts for variety of chemical transformations, which include hydrohydrazination of alkynes, olefin metathesis, reductive formylation of amines with carbon dioxide and diphenylsilane, hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of N-heteroarenes in water, cycloisomerization of enynes, asymmetric Suzuki Miyaura cross-coupling, and water oxidation (WO) reactions. Besides their catalytic applications, MIC transition metal complexes have found applications in material sciences as exemplified by the preparation of the first iron(III) complex that is luminescent at room temperature. The peculiar properties of mesoionic triazolylidenes, combined with their enhanced stability, position them as excellent candidates to address some current challenges such as access to high-oxidation-state 3d metal complexes, the stabilization of highly reactive main group elements, the stabilization of nanoparticles, the preparation of efficient catalysts and photosensitizers based on earth-abundant transition metals, and the functionalization of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold.

This symposium series will be organized under the auspices of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action-NANOUPTAKE. In addition to build research and development cooperation among the participants of this COST Action the symposium will provide a platform for strong collaboration and exchange of research and ideas as well as to bring together other researchers, scientists and engineers from Europe and around the world, who are working on nanofluids and related areas. Related companies were invited to participate in the symposium for potential discussions and collaborations. This symposium features plenary and invited lectures as well as oral and flash presentations.

Se utilizó un diseño cuasi experimental con un solo grupo, con medidas pretestpostest y como instrumento el Cuestionario de Ideas acerca de la Diversidad Familiar. Los resultados indican que no existen diferencias significativas antes y después de cursar la asignatura, pero sí una mejora en la actitud y en el conocimiento de herramientas pedagógicas para trabajar el tópico en las aulas.
- ArtículoAcceso abierto2-Methyl-6-(phenylethynyl)pyridine Hydrochloride Modulates Metabotropic Glutamate 5 Receptors Endogenously Expressed in Zebrafish Brain(American Chemical Society, 2016-12-21) Albasanz, José Luis; Santana, Soraya; Guzman-Sanchez, Fernando; León, David; Burgos, Javier S.; Martín, MairenaDue to phylogenetic proximity to the human, zebrafish has been recognized as a reliable model to study Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other central nervous system disorders. Furthermore, metabotropic glutamate receptors have been previously reported to be impaired in brain from AD patients. Metabotropic glutamate 5 (mGlu5) receptors are G-protein coupled receptors proposed as potential targets for therapy of different neurodegenerative disorders. Thus, MPEP (2-methyl-6-(phenylethynyl)pyridine hydrochloride), a selective noncompetitive mGlu5 receptor antagonist, has been suggested for pharmacological treatment of AD. The aim of the present work was to quantify mGlu5 receptors in brain from zebrafish and to study the possible modulation of these receptors by MPEP treatment. To this end, radioligand binding assay and open field test were used. Results showed a slightly higher presence of mGlu5 receptors in brain from male than in that from female zebrafish. However, a significant increase of mGlu5 receptor in male without variation in female was observed after MPEP treatment. This gender specific response was also observed in locomotor behavior, being significantly decreased only in male zebrafish. These results confirm the presence of mGlu5 receptors in brain from zebrafish and their gender specific modulation by selective antagonist treatment and suggest a role of these receptors on locomotor activity, which is affected in many disorders. In addition, our data point to zebrafish as a useful model to study mGlu receptor function in both healthy and pathological conditions.

- ArtículoAcceso abierto20 GHz arbitrary radio-frequency waveform generator based on incoherent pulse shaping(Optical Society of America, 2008) Torres Company, Víctor; Andrés, Pedro; Lancis, Jesús; Chen, Lawrence R.We demonstrate a new approach of photonically assisted radiofrequency (RF) waveform generation using a spectrally incoherent light source. The system is based on the so-called generalized frequency-to-time mapping operation. In this work, external modulation of the source is done by concatenating two electro-optic Mach-Zehnder modulators properly biased to achieve short pulse gates which allow for broad bandwidth electrical signals. Also, the spectral shaping stage is performed prior to O/E conversion. A detailed theoretical analysis demonstrates that even in this case the frequency-to-time mapping is preserved. The key is that the noise level is greatly reduced because the amplitude filter serves as noise rejecter. Experimental results show up to ~20 GHz electrical bandwidth signals using 10 Gb/s standard telecommunication equipment with the nice feature of repetition rate control on the generated electrical waveform.

The method uses the fully anisotropic Morlet wavelet to estimate the energy distribution at different directions and scales. The spatial heterogeneity and complexity of spatial point patterns is then analyzed using the multiscale anisotropic avelet entropy. The efficacy of the approach is shown through a simulation study. Finally, an application to the catalog of earthquake events in Chile is considered.

However, its performance is hampered by electron-hole recombination at surface states. Herein, partially oxidized two-dimensional (2D) bismuthene is developed as an effective, stable, functional interlayer between BiVO4 and the archetypal NiFeOOH co-catalyst. Comprehensive (photo)electrochemical and surface photovoltage characterizations show that NiFeOOH can effectively increase the lifetime of photogenerated holes by passivating hole trap states of BiVO4; however, it is limited in influencing electron trap states related to oxygen vacancies (VO). Loading bismuthene on BiVO4 photoanodes increases the density of VO that are beneficial for the oxygen evolution reaction via the formation of oxy/hydroxyl-based water oxidation intermediates at the surface. Moreover, bismuthene increases interfacial band bending and fills the VO-related electron traps, leading to more efficient charge extraction. With the synergistic interaction of bismuthene and NiFeOOH on BiVO4, this composite photoanode achieves a 5.8-fold increase in photocurrent compared to bare BiVO4 reaching a stable 3.4 (±0.2) mA cm–2 at a low bias of +0.8 VRHE or 4.7(±0.2) mA cm–2 at +1.23 VRHE. The use of 2D bismuthene as functional interlayer provides a new strategy to enhance the performance of photoanodes.
