Intervencions en l’antic hospital d’Orpesa i recuperació d’un tram de la muralla del segle XVII

Abstract

Les intervencions arqueològiques que s'han realitzat en l'antic Hospital de la població d'Orpesa (La Plana Alta, Castelló), motivades pel projecte de rehabilitació i adequació de l'immoble com a dependència del Museu d'Orpesa, han permés recuperar també un tram de la muralla del segle XVII a nivell de fonamentació. La informació obtinguda permet resseguir amb major precisió el procés de canvis que va experimentar esta zona urbana de la població, ja siga dins del recinte fortificat com també fora del mateix, amb diferents construccions adossades a les pròpies muralles, així com la seua destrucció parcial.

Archaeological works made at the old Orpesa’s Hospital (La Plana Alta, Castelló), inspired by the building’s rehabilitation and adaptation project as a unit of the Orpesa Museum, have also allowed to restore a section of the wall from the 17th century at foundation level. The information obtained allows to follow more precisely the changing process experienced by this urban zone of the village, both inside and outside the fortified enclosure, with different constructions attached to the wall itself, as well as its own partial destruction.
