This study has the aim to investigate the second language vocabulary learning, in particular the learning of polysemous words through the guessing from context strategy. As the cognitive approach explains language is not an autonomous system and it depends on the context, that’s why the importance of the context in the learning process. The prototype theory tells that a polysemous word contains a core sense and non-core ones among a number of related senses. Frames and Idealized Cognitive Models are organized packages of knowledge that allow humans to make sense of their background experiences and speakers know the meaning of the word only by first understanding the background frames that motivated the concept that the word encodes. These frames that the context evokes will help the student to guess the meaning of unknown words. The guessing from context strategy is the best way to learn vocabulary and this study will prove it.
