La literatura basada en la investigación del nivel manifestado de condición física de la mujer deportista, en base a la fluctuación hormonal que su ciclo menstrual conlleva, ya sea natural o artificial, sigue sin estar clara. El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar si la fluctuación hormonal asociada al ciclo menstrual, tanto el natural como el artificial, provoca cambios sustanciales sobre el nivel de condición física manifestado en mujeres deportistas. Se trató de un estudio prospectivo de cohortes de medidas repetidas con dos grupos de estudio. Se llevaron a cabo análisis sanguíneos hormonales y pruebas para valorar la condición física. Las mujeres con ciclos menstruales naturales poseen menor aptitud cardiorrespiratoria durante la menstruación, así como un menor umbral sensitivo y doloroso. La masa corporal y el porcentaje de grasa también es más elevado en esta fase. Estos hallazgos no son evidenciados en las mujeres deportistas con ciclos menstruales artificiales. [-]

The literature based on the investigation about the manifested level of physical fitness on female athletes, based on the hormonal fluctuation that their menstrual cycle entails, whether natural or artificial, remains unclear. The aim of this research was to determine whether the hormonal fluctuation associated with the menstrual cycle, both natural and artificial, causes substantial changes in the level of manifested fitness in female athletes. This was a prospective, repeated measures cohort study with two study groups. Hormonal blood and fitness tests were carried out. Women with natural menstrual cycles have lower cardiorespiratory capacity during menstruation, as well as a lower sensory and pain threshold. Body mass and fat percentage is also higher during this phase. These findings are not evident in athletic women with artificial menstrual cycles. [-]
