According to the literature, the emotional understandings is related to theory of mind (Astington, 1993; Flavell, 2000), specifically with the ability to understanding that beliefs about reality can also condition the emotions that people feel, and not only the reality itself (Rieffe et to., 2005). At preschool age, linguistic skill are a significant predictor of emotional ToM (Cutting and Dunn, 1999), and for that reason, could be thought that children and with specific language impairment (SLI), above of all those with more pragmatic problems (PLI), could have an impoverished symbolic representation of emotions (Pons et al., 2003). However the main cause of these problems is diffuse, because in the literature are considered as consequences of: a) aToM deficit inherent to the linguistic complexity of evaluation tasks (Trauner et al. 1993).
Within the framework of this debate, in this paper a comparison of two SLI groups, which differ in its pragmatics impairment (PLI-69,44 months; conventional SLI - 71,55 months) and their respective control group is made, and all they are tested with emotional understanding tasks, introducing two administration task condition: visual one and verbal one. Results suggest that both pathological groups are comparable to control group in at least one of administration conditions. However, PLI group shows more differences with control group in the visual condition (Z =-2,64-sig.o.008), proving that other variables related to context data processing are influencing in their performance, and not the understanding of the emotion itself [-]
