| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | The power of the film industry in the making and consolidation of an imaginary social collective is undeniable, therefore, the validation of a certain lifestyle, belief, political position, or even a reality, has been possible through its productions. The problematic with representation of some social groups, ethnicities or races it has been more evident as our society moves forward, evolves and questiones the codes that allowed that certain narratives were validated and accepted by social agents. In this context, bodies with overweight have seen themselves historically as a humoristic resource and underdeveloped. They have been assigned frequently supporting roles with few leading roles, even though nowadays there has been more presence of them in the television field, due to the proliferation of streaming platforms which have allowed the production of new ways of storytelling. However, the strong representation of the obesity in the cinema may have been operating in a cross-cutting way on different performers and genres, trespassing the narrative barriers, reaching a bigger audience, and influencing before watching a movie. Even more when the object of this study is the American cinema, a predominant cinema in occident and whose range was, at least previously, superior to the others. Thus, the aim is not only questioning the role of the cinema, but proving if since the new century there are differences and/or evolution regarding its treatment, and if it is the most accurate. | ca_CA |
