| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION: Obesity is a global problem and is continuously on the rise. Accordingly it is necessary to look for different strategies in order to reduce its incidence. Multiple studies have shown that those patients who follow calorie restricted diets (CR), achieve positive changes in the predominant phyla of the intestinal microbiota (MI). Adopting these changes are shown to have beneficial metabolic and enzymatic effects to one`s overall health as well as an additional benefit of weight loss. OBJECTIVES: To investigate what the predominant changes are which occur in the intestinal microbiota in patients who follow CR and what effects these changes have on the overall health of the individual. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A critical systematic review has been carried out from the PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science (WOS) and SciELO databases. The criteria includes: publications carried out in the last 15 years (2006-2021), systematic reviews, meta-analysis, clinical trials and retrospective studies (cases and controls), experimentation in humans and other animals, availability of full text and texts in English and Spanish. From this search, the 14 main articles that are part of this review were finally extracted. RESULTS: 14 studies were analyzed, showing in all of them the existence of changes in MI after undertaking a CR diet. One of these changes included weight loss. In the 7 selected clinical trials, an increase in Bacteroidetes and a decrease in Firmicutes were observed. These changes were beneficial in terms of the quality of life of the individual, since it indicates a decrease in metabolic diseases, a reduction in visceral and hepatic fat, and a reduction in systemic inflammation in addition to improving the values of diabetic parameters. The 4 prospective trials reported the same changes in each and the 4 systematic reviews reached the same or similar conclusions. CONCLUSIONS: t can be confirmed that as well as increasing longevity and healthy aging through phyla positively correlated with life expectancy, CR is a dietary practice that helps to counteract intestinal dysbiosis in obese patients with metabolic diseases, thereby increasing their quality of life and improving parameters. Further study is needed on the subject as it could be a promising approach to weight loss treatment and the benefits that come with it. | ca_CA |
