| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Video game soundtracks are an indispensable part of video games. They help to build the atmosphere of the game, its narrative, the characters, etc. However, and although this is shifting, it is often ignored by the public, focusing their attention only on the gameplay. Journey is a perfect example that serves to further establish the foundations of music within video games and emphasize its presence and relevance, both within and outside the game itself. In fact, among its multiple award nominations, Journey stands out for having the first ever nomination for a Grammy Award for its soundtrack. The main objective of this work is to study the music and its meaning in the narrative of Journey, as well as its possible educational implications. To do this, we have used a mixed methodology based on three approaches: a literature review, then we sequenced the content using timelines that allowed us to know where “What is heard” is located and, finally, we applied the Template 3.0 (Porta, Morant, Ferrández, 2015), a tool that allows us to know in detail “What is being listened” at each moment. The results show an underlying thread that vertebrates the soundtrack of Journey, thus managing to establish a clear and uniform atmosphere. In conclusion, Austin Wintory’s work fits perfectly with what is seen on screen; each piece has its place and weight in the narrative, and they build and perfectly orchestrate the journey of the Traveller. | ca_CA |
