The problem of squatting has existed in Spain since the 1980s, but it was not until a
few years ago that it really gained importance. Through the media, society has been able
to create its own opinion regarding squatting, seeing only the most mediatic or alarming
cases, without these being the true reality of the situation. Squatting, or really the
problem of access to housing, is a real problem that has not been paid attention to, which
is why there are no real mechanisms to, on the one hand, help people without economic
resources to access housing, and, on the other hand, to guarantee the inherent rights
attributed to those who have to suffer squatting in their homes. This is why society is
increasingly turning to the state to try to solve this serious problem, but are all available
measures being taken to try to help both sides in the process? [-]
