dc.description.abstract | This study arises with the aim of analyzing, through a bibliographic review with meta-analysis, a total of ten previous studies on gender stereotypes in mathematics. When a person belongs to a group that can be judged negatively (a woman who undergoes a performance test in mathematics), their behaviors will be aimed at confirming the stereotype. This curious phenomenon is known as the "Stereotype Threat". This can reduce the performance of the stereotyped group, women in this case, and improve that of the favored subjects (men). Data from a total of 906 previous women were compared, using the Cohen's D value, in order to obtain a global vision of how the type of reactivation of the mathematical stereotype (explicit / implicit) can provoke biases in women. in their performance; as well as analyzing possible moderators that could be influencing, such as the type of evaluation (mixed / women only) and the type of studies (STEM / psychology). Contrary to what was predicted, no significant differences were found in the performance of women who were induced to reactivate the stereotype, both implicit and explicit, compared to the control group. In the type of evaluation (mixed / women only), no significant differences in performance were found when women in threatening condition were compared with those in the control group, showing similar results. On the other hand, differences in performance were observed when the studies were related to STEM, slightly improving the performance of women in the threatening condition compared to the control group. However, this positive effect effect of the group under threat of stereotype was not observed when the studies were of psychology and, therefore, performance did not differ between women in the experimental and control group. | ca_CA |
| ca_CA |
