dc.description.abstract | Stories are socializing instruments through which children learn social values and norms. In these stories, gender stereotypes appear that will shape the roles of these children in society. Through this work, the type of stereotypes present in thirty classic children's stories was analyzed, divided into those starring boys and those starring girls. Stereotype dictionaries were developed and the relative frequency for each stereotype differentiated by gender was obtained, as well as the percentages. On the other hand, the relative risk of a certain stereotype appearing in a story starring a girl was calculated and, finally, a classification tree was obtained that highlights the most relevant categories for the differentiation of stories by gender. Based on these analyzes, word clouds were obtained that show a greater presence of words related to royalty in girls' tales and of wealth in boys' tales. This greater tendency towards themes of richness in stories with male protagonists continues to appear in relative frequencies and percentages, accompanied by a higher prevalence of words related to fear, agency and violence, compared to stories with female protagonists, in which stereotypes of beauty and love stand out, as well as a greater use of diminutives. These three categories have a higher relative risk of appearing in stories starring girls (2,172, 3,067 and 1,525 respectively). Relative risk shows that there are no significant differences for other categories such as augmentative, poverty or intelligence. Finally, the classification tree shows that wealth is the theme that allows a greater differentiation between the gender of stories, followed by love and diminutives. Therefore, a clear differentiation is observed in the themes treated in the stories depending on the gender. | ca_CA |
| ca_CA |
