The aim of this work is to know and analyse the strategies which are used by children when they make mistakes in the marbles game. This analysis is carried on with the Grounded Theory. The participants were 433 students (50,6% boys and 49,4% girls) of fourth Elementary Education in four states schools in Castellón. In order to get the strategies, children asked the task questionnaire (García Bacete, 2014). This qualitative work is carried on doing a painstaking work which consists on grouping similar responses and doing comparisons like answer-answer, answer-category and category-category. After making some changes during the process, three different categorizations have been obtained. The last categorization includes six categories with their strategies: rules to be a good player, to be confidence of winning, to ask help-learning, defeatism, to avoid losing game and aggressivity. A definition for each category and representative examples is provided. After analyzing the six categories and comparing them with other studies, it is concluded that boys and girls use different strategies in different ways, although many of these strategies coincide in both groups. The frequent use of strategies to win the game or to avoid losing it is highlighted. Furthermore, the degree attributed to the responsibility of the result depends on the initial strategies of success that children had. The experience of situations in which children lose in a game, such as failure or frustration, could be a possible hypothesis of why children use aggressive or defeatist strategies. [-]
