Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) can be defined as “a dual-focused
educational approach in which an additional language is used for the learning and teaching of
both content and language mastery to predefined levels” (Guillamón-Suesta & Renau Renau,
2015, p.1). In the Spanish educational context, this approach is gradually increasing its
application due to the broad experience of some Departments of Education when it comes to
implementing dual language and content programmes in those territories with more than one
official language. What is intended by teaching content through English is to improve the
students’ competence in that foreign language and their ability to speak and listen to genuine
English. Additionally, the following 2nd ESO didactic unit focused on teaching mathematics
was created with the aim of helping to design didactic material concerning this approach.
Hence, it is another way of expanding the existing materials of this approach and improve the
teaching quality and learning-teaching process. [-]
