The specific demands of the work of a police officer and their psychological consequences
are well known. (Van der Velden et al., 2013) state that this sector has a greater risk of
developing mental health problems. Psychological capital (PsyCap) is a personal resource
that increases the capacity for personal development (Luthans et al., 2008). Its
dimensions (self-efficacy, hope, resilience and optimism) can be enhanced in groups
whose demands are very exigent. The objective of this paper is to analyze the effect of
PsyCap on the well-being (engagement) and discomfort (burnout) of police officers. The
hypotheses are (1) that the labor demands will be negatively related to the PsyCap, (2)
the labor resources will be positively related to the PsyCap, (3) the PsyCap will be
positively related to the well-being (engagement), (4) the PsyCap it will be negatively
related to the malaise (burnout) and finally (5) the PsyCap will act as a mediating variable
between demands-resources and well-being-malaise.
The objective of this final master's thesis is to make an intervention proposal in
Psychological Capital within the national police forces. Based on the Demand and
Resource Model (Bakker and Demerouti, 2017) and through self-report questionnaires,
resources and demands will be evaluated with the RED questionnaire. The PsyCap will be
evaluated with the I-PCQ questionnaire (Harms and Luthans, 2012), engagement with the
UWES questionnaire (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2003) and burnout with the MBI (Maslach and
Jackson, 1986). [-]

1986). [-]
