dc.description.abstract | Video game addiction is an excessive and compulsive use with a significative interference in its social, academic or laboral life, despite the negative consequences the person still uses it (CIE-11, 2018). Research about video game addiction has increased, but their assessment and treatment is limited. This work examines results of a single case study about a 20-year-old student who was worried about his excessive use of video game. The treatment is based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with the following modules and telephone and e-mail reinforcement: motivation for changing and establishment of therapeutic objectives, psychoeducation, stimulus control and creation of a new life style, exposition with prevention of response, cognitive restructuring, awareness and emotional regulation, problem solutions and relapse prevention. At the moment, he is in the seventh module, awareness and emotional regulation. We saw how playing video game time and surfing internet time has reduced from 6 hours per day to none, in 13 weeks. Results up to now show that the treatment reduced the impulse and resistance to play although he does not play too. We passed again the three video game-related questionnaires and we saw great changes in the mid-term evaluation. He was above the range of the clinical problem in Video Game Dependency Test (TDV) and Video Game Related Experiences Questionnaire (CERV) and now he is below the range of clinical problem of both, as well as in the Internet Gaming Disorder Test (IGD-20) . With the preset study, we want to highlight the need for more research about this problem, because it is scarce despite the growing prevalence (Marco & Chóliz, 2014). | ca_CA |
| ca_CA |
