Investigación-Acción-Participativa: estereotipos y prejuicios hacia el pueblo árabe en Sant Mateu

Abstract

El presente trabajo buscaba dar a conocer los estereotipos del pueblo árabe y los prejuicios que mantienen la población de Sant Mateu hacia el pueblo árabe residente en el pueblo, y después hacer una intervención con el fin de cambiar las actitudes prejuiciosas que mantienen los sujetos mediante la metodología de Investigación-Acción-Participativa (IAP). Para ello se ha operativizado la identidad social a través del análisis de los estereotipos, empleándose para su medida la Lista de Adjetivos de Katz y Braly (1933) y el análisis de los prejuicios, empleándose para su medida la Escala de Prejuicio Sutil y Manifiesto de Pettigrew y Meertens (1995). Los resultados encontrados muestran que el contenido del estereotipo del pueblo árabe está formado por los adjetivos, muy religiosa, trabajadora, amable, conservadora, leal a los lazos familiares y amantes de la tradición, por tanto, se puede ver que el estereotipo es positivo. En cuanto los resultados de los prejuicios revelan que el 50,7% de los sujetos son igualitarios, el 14,7 % de la muestra presenta un perfil de errores, un 32% la representan los fanáticos y, por último, un 2,7%lo formaban el grupo de sutiles. En la segunda fase, la intervención, se realizó un seminario a modo de prueba piloto, con una muestra reducida, con el fin de cambiar las actitudes prejuiciosas, sin embargo, los resultados no fueron notables, ya que se necesitarían más sesiones para alcanzar los objetivos.

The present work aimed to reveal the stereotypes of the Arab people and the prejudices that keep the population of Sant Mateu towards the Arab population residing in the town and then make an intervention in order to change the prejudiced attitudes that the participants maintain through the Research-Action-Participation (IAP) methodology. For this purpose, social identity has been put into operation through the analysis of stereotypes, using Katz and Braly's List of Adjectives (1933) and analyzing prejudices, using the Subtle Prejudice and Manifesto Scale Pettigrew and Meertens (1995). The results show that the stereotype content of the Arab people is composed of a set of adjectives like: very religious, hardworking, kind, conservative, loyal to family ties and lovers of tradition. So that, you can see that the stereotype is positive. As the results of the bias reveal that 50.7% of the subjects are egalitarian, 14.7% of the sample presents a profile of errors, 32% represent the fans and, finally, 2.7 % were formed by the group of subtle ones.
