This essay is based on a possible teaching proposal about how to teach dialogic
literary gatherings of universal literature in Compulsory Secondary Education students.
Nowadays, an optional subject has been established in the Spanish Educative Centres to
carry out this dialogic activity and encourage students to promote the reading act as well
as improve their capacity in oral skills, learning at the same time a certain knowledge of
universal literature. The idea of dealing with this topic emerged taking the example of
the successful results of other secondary educative centers such as La Verneda and La
Pradera acting as a Learning Communities. The aim of the study is put into practice a
future DU related to dialogic literary gatherings in the group of 4th of ESO selecting
some of the most representative books of universal literature such as “Dracula”, “Dr
Jekyll and Mr Hide” and “The Treasure Island” both of them adaptations of the original
books. In this way, the main goal of the unit is to discussing all the contents and topics
related to the readings proposed through the medium of the dialogue working
individually and in groups. In the same way, reading and writing skills are also took into
account to develop the unit but in secondary role. Our intention is trying to promote
dialogue and reflection through the different possible interpretations of a same piece of
literary text providing students the necessary tools to awaken their personal critic
opinion and the capacity of argue. [-]
