Radio spectrum is being privatized and liberalized in the European Union. The new European regulatory framework for electronic communications creates spectrum markets and establishes both open and flexible mechanisms in spectrum management, this regulatory reform may put in danger broadcasting services in radio spectrum. For instance, the Spanish digital dividend auction has exclusively benefit mobile operators. This phenomenon illustrates a trend of a progressive removal of the broadcasters from radio spectrum, which is a strategic resource for the development of other types of mobile communications. The launch of connected TVs may represent a prelude of the end of broadcasting. [-]
