Generation Kill: la estética de la muerte

Abstract

Generation Kill, miniserie del canal de cable premium norteamericano Home Box Office, en su división de HBO Films, compuesta por siete capítu-los sin continuidad posterior. El tipo de reflexión que pretendemos llevar a cabo se estructura en torno a tres ejes conceptuales: estética, ética y épica. La estética visual de carácter documental que conecta a la perfección el mundo posible (el generado por el discurso e inmerso en el significante), el mundo real (el contextual para el espectador) y el mundo proyectado (aquel imaginario que el propio espectador edifica mediante el cruce de los dos anteriores). Los personajes de Generation Kill son el reflejo de su tiempo: violentos, racistas, aparentemente insensibles... máquinas de matar. pone en evidencia aspectos tales como la humillación o el culto al armamento e incluso la fuerte homosexualidad latente que se respira en el ambiente en que cohabitan estos soldados

Generation Kill is a mini-series broadcast by the premium US cable channel Home Box Office, through its HBO Films division, comprising seven episodes that do not run over into the next one. The kinds of aspects we aim to consider here are structured around three conceptual poles: the aesthetic, the ethical and the epic. The visual aesthetics of the series give it a documentary-like appearance that links the possible world (the one generated by the discourse and immersed within the significant), the real world (the contextual one for the viewer) and the projected world (the imaginary one the viewers themselves construct by crossing the previous two). The characters in Generation Kill are a reflection of the time they live in, i.e. violent, racist, apparently insensitive… killing machines. The series brings to the fore aspects like humiliation or the veneration of weapons and even the latent homosexuality that can be felt in the atmosphere in which these soldiers have to live together
