Nowadays, many high school students suffer from some kind of learning disability, but the
most common one is the so-called dyslexia and almost twenty percent of the learners have
dyslexia (International, 2012). However, most of them do not even know they have dyslexia.
This learning disability affects mainly the reading skill of the language. This paper is a
teaching proposal whose aim is to improve the spelling of dyslexic students. The lessons are
designed for a group of Spanish students from the first of ESO (Educación Secundaria
Obligatoria), in which some of them present different types of dyslexia. The activities created
are based on strategies from other researchers. These activities are inclusive and the use of
ICTs is barely for students’ motivation when learning new vocabulary. Learning a second
language, in this case English, is very important for dyslexic students since this can
encourage them to have the same work opportunities as the rest of their classmates. To
conclude, teachers need more training in order to detect cases of dyslexic students in the
class on time. Hence, they have to be able to help dyslexic students in their process of
learning and motivate them with activities that are adapted to their learning necessities. [-]
