The present Final Degree Project tries to solve if the narrative resource known
as the "Rashomon effect" is used in the cinema of the XXI century. In order to carry
out the research, we wanted to focus on the work of Tate Taylor The Girl on the Train
in 2016 in which we will carry out a textual analysis based on the methodology
proposed by Gómez Tarín (2006) in order to find out if the Rashomon effect it still
exists in the cinema. To carry out an investigation with sufficient knowledge, after
establishing the objectives and the hypothesis, and also the structure in the
introductory section, we have carried out a search and synthesized in the theoretical
framework what the Rashomon effect is, what is the origin of the term and in What
context does the work Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa, 1950 appear in. But we have
also selected the main features of postclassic cinema since Rashomon is one of the
works that begins to show its characteristics. In addition, we wanted to explain in this
theoretical framework the key concepts necessary to fully understand the analysis of
the work such as focusing, ocularization and auricularization, as well as the
unreliable narrator. Once these concepts have been assimilated, we have proceeded
to the analysis of the film, which has allowed us to collect the results. From this, we
have been able to extract that The girl on the train does present different focuses that
offer us perspectives that contradict each other, as happens in Rashomon , the
sample of the subjectivity of the versions shown in a contradictory way favors the
indication that We can conclude that the hypothesis that we put forward in the
investigation is indeed verified. [-]
