By 1960, women represented 10% in the labor market and 25% of the total number of students enrolled in the only university that existed in the Dominican Republic. At that time, the marriage was presented in a relatively stable way, being the space where most couples developed their life under the scheme and values of the traditional family. However, in the 90’s the reality was completely different since women constituted about 40% of the economically active population, while overcoming the barrier of 50% students registered in the higher education system. At the same time, the preponderance of religious and legal marriage ended for other forms of matching. Analyzing this process of changes and its consequences is what we pursue in this research about the evolution of the Dominican women in the fields of education, work and family. [-]
