dc.description.abstract | Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental disorders with characteristic central symptoms, such as persistent deficits in communication and social interaction; repetitive and restricted patterns of behaviors, activities and i nterests; and hyper - or hypo - sensory reactivity towards the environment. There are numerous researches that have studied the neuropsychological profile and the prof ile of brain development in ASD, repeatedly establishing several hypotheses regarding the existence of anomalies in certain brain structures that play an important role in the etiopathogenesis of the disorder. Besides , a cognitive and social profile has been 2 established and it has been related to the different cerebral alterations found. The objective of the present research was to study the cerebral volumetric differences at the cortical and subcortical level and, on the other hand, the neuropsychological differences between a group of 24 children diagnosed with Asperge r's Disease (AD ) and another group of 24 children with Typical Developm ent (TP ), both with ages between 8 and 12 years old . Subsequently, it was intended to investigate whether there was a relationship between the variables mentioned. The results showed a reduction in grey matter (GM) volume in the left lateral occipital lobe, the right postcentral gyrus, the left thalamus and the left putamen. These findings could be interpreted as a possible explanation of some of the main symptoms observed in ASD, such a s sensory alterations, difficulties in language development and difficulties in higher order cognitive functions such as cognition and social communication. | ca_CA |
| ca_CA |
