Influencia de la inteligencia emocional en la dirección de equipos en el ámbito sanitario

Abstract

La inteligencia Emocional (IE) ha sido de gran interés en el ámbito de la investigación en los últimos años, por este motivo el presente estudio tiene como propósito analizar las relaciones existentes entre la Inteligencia Emocional de los líderes que forman equipos y el bienestar de sus empleados en diferentes hospitales de la Comunidad Valenciana. La muestra total estuvo compuesta por 134 participantes, entre los cuales 105 son hombres y 29 mujeres. Los empleados fueron organizados en 7 grupos y dirigidos por 8 supervisores. Se aplicó como instrumento para evaluar la inteligencia emocional la prueba TMMS-24 (Trait Meta Mood Scale) y para el bienestar, la prueba MBI-GS (Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey). El análisis correlacional, mediante la prueba r de Pearson, puso de manifiesto la existencia de correlaciones estadísticamente significativas y negativas entre la IE y Burnout. Estos resultados nos indican que poseer competencias de IE podría predecir el bienestar. En contradicción a lo esperado, la comparación de medias, mediante la prueba t de Student, no muestra una relación significativa entre el bienestar de los empleados dirigidos por líderes con alta IE y aquellos que están dirigidos por líderes con ausencia de la misma. Sin embargo, los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto la importancia de realizar cursos de formación en el ámbito asistencial, así como en cualquier ámbito del mundo laboral.

In the past few years Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been of great interest in the field of psychological research. The aim of the present study is to analyze the relation between team/project leaders´ emotional intelligence with the wellness of their employees in several hospitals of the Comunidad Valenciana. The sample used within the research was composed of 134 participants in total. Beeing 105 of them men and 29 of them women. These employees were organized into 7 different groups and led by 8 supervisors. We applied the TMMS-24 (Trait Meta Mood Scale) test as a tool to evaluate the Emotional Intelligence. As for the wellness we used the MBI-GS (Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey) test. The application of Pearson´s r test proved both a statistically significant correlation and negative correlation between EI and burnout. On the one hand, these results suggest that EI competence could have an influence in the wellness. On the other hand, if we compare the averages -using the Student´s t test- it turns out that there is no significant relation between employees´ wellness and the fact that their leaders had proved to have a high EI. Thus providing a result contrary to what we expected. Nevertheless, these results demonstrate the relevance of implementing training courses within the field of healthcare and within any other labour field.
