territorio: The Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph (británicos conservadores); The
Daily Record y The Herald (escoceses liberales).

This paper analyses the treatment of the independence movement in Scotland
during the previous months before the referendum of the 18th of September 2014
made by some of the most important British and Scottish newspapers. The main
objective is to find out the development of journalistic approach given to some
issues, considered relevant to understand the referendum. In order to do this, we
have done a critic speech analysis. We have studied three moments of particular
significance for this process, the oficial start of the referéndum campaign (26th of
May 2014), the first televised debate on BBC between the two leaders of the
campaigns: Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling (5th of August 2014) and the day
of the ballot of the referendum for the Independence of Scotland (18th of
September 2014). The sample is integrated of four newspapers with different
ideologies and locations: The Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph (British
conservative); The Daily Record y The Herald (Scottish liberals). With this, we
have demonstrated as a result that neither the ideology of the media and its
geographic location affects the positioning they have on independence, but this
approach is set by the line and economic interests of the media groups that they
belong. [-]
