A survey has been carried out of 801 legal adult citizens of the Valencian Community to check
what variables are associated to attitudes towards their own organ donation or the one of a
deceased relative. Through multiple regression analysis, multivariate models have been
obtained. The variables that influence these attitudes are age, province of residence, attitudes to
the corpse and their interactions.
The regression equation about the personal decision seems to be influenced by the perception of
the body after death, the place of residence and the age of the decision-maker, whereas gender
doesn’t show significant differences.
Interaction is carried out as follows: when the attitude to the body is high, the attitudes toward d
onation improves with age up to 50 years old and it decreases from that age on. However, the
contrary happens when the attitude to the body is low, gradually decreasing to donation up to 60
years old, and increasing with age advancing. In short, attitude to organ donation is a complex
process not attributed to simple causes, but the interaction of several causes mentioned before. [-]
