Tanto el consumo de tabaco como la depresión son dos temas que han preocupado
desde siempre, más aún si se relaciona con edades tempranas por su repercusión en la edad
adulta. Mediante este estudio hemos investigado sobre la relación entre el consumo de tabaco
y los niveles de depresión. Para ello hemos seleccionado una muestra de estudiantes del grado
de Psicología de la Universitat Jaume I formada por 148 participantes, siendo la edad media de
éstos de 21,36 años y una desviación típica de 3,69.
Los objetivos del presente estudio es comprobar la relación entre el consumo de tabaco y la
depresión y la relación entre la motivación para fumar y la depresión. Se pasó a todos los
participantes el Inventario de Depresión de Beck, además a los fumadores se les pasó el Test
de Rusell el Test de Fagertröm y una ficha para recoger datos. El 32,43% de los participantes
son fumadores (48) mientras que el 67,57% son participantes no fumadores (100). No se
encontraron diferencias significativas entre el consumo de tabaco y los niveles de depresión,
difiriendo de los datos encontrados en estudios anteriores. [-]

Both consumption of tobacco and depression are two issues that have long bedevilled,
even if it relates to early age because of their impact in adulthood. Throughout this study, we
have investigated the relationship between the consumption of tobacco and depression levels.
In order to carry this out, we have selected a sample of students of Psychology degree from
Jaume I University consisting on 148 participants, with an average age of 21.36 years and a
standard deviation of 3.69.
The objectives of the present study are to test the relationship between the consumption of
tobacco and depression and the relationship between the motivation to quit smoking and
depresiión. All the participants were given the Beck Depression Inventory, and besides, the
smokers were given the Rusell and the Fagerström Tests, and a sheet to gather information.
Each of the participants took different questionnaires selected for the collection of data.
32.43% of participants were smokers (48), while 67.57% of participants were no smokers
(100). No significant differences between the consumption of tobacco and depression levels
were found, differing from the data found in previous studies. [-]
