“AND” y “OR” para dar respuesta a la pregunta clínica

Introduction: Parkinson's disease is the second most
common neurodegenerative disorder in the Hispanic
population. This pathology generates motor and non motor symptoms that cause multiple complications, the
most important of which are falls, given their frequency
and consequences. The present review aims to identify
the effects of physical exercise on the prevention of falls
in patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Objective: The present review aims to identify the
effects of practicing physical exercise on the prevention
of falls in patients diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
Methods: An advanced search was carried out in the
Medline, Cochrane Library Plus and CINAHL databases
using DeCS and MeSH descriptors combined with the
Boolean operators "AND" and "OR" to answer the
clinical research question PICO. Language (English,
Spanish and Catalan), time (last five years), species
(humans) and availability (free full-text articles) filters
were applied. Results: A total of 2,084 articles were
obtained, however, after application of the filters this
was reduced to 972 articles, of which only 31 articles
were included in the integrative literature review.
Conclusions: Physical exercise for the prevention of
falls is beneficial as it improves risk factors, mainly lack
of balance, freezing of gait and decreased muscle
strength, thus decreasing the rate of falls in a cost effective way in the long term. [-]
