In this chapter, I delve into a particular interest within otaku tourism: butaitanbou, or scene hunting. My approach concentrates in a comparison between the skills demonstrated by two of the most active English-language websites dealing with butaitanbou and the indicators of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) established by UNESCO. By means of this novel approach to anime-induced tourism through the analysis of the particularities of fan activity around one of the most beloved franchises in the last decade, I aim to address the impact that active niche subcultures might have on both tourism and in media literacy of society.
