CD Castellón is one of the most popular teams in Spain. Its deep history and
tradition make it a very popular team, especially in the province of Castellón.
CD Castellón was founded on 20 July 1922, after changing the name of Cervantes
Club de Fútbol in an agreement made by the club's Board of Directors. The club's
first president was Tadeo Mallach, a businessman and ship consignee who was
strongly in favour of this change. This president was not well liked by the citizens of
Castellón as he was accused of selling a match to Valencia CF.
In 1941, and after the first promotion to the first division in its history, CD Castellón
chained a total of 6 consecutive seasons in the highest category of Spanish soccer.
During the 42/43 season, they even fought to win the league, but finally Athletic Club
de Bilbao won it and CD Castellón finished 4th, reaching the highest number of
points of the club in the first division. In 1946 Castalia, the new home of the
Albinegros fans, was inaugurated.
However, the best season in the history of CD Castellón would take a few years to
arrive. After several seasons oscillating between the second and third divisions, the
team was promoted again in 1972.
During the season of return to the first division, the team had great players such as
Vicente Del Bosque, Cela or Planelles, and this made them finish in 5th position and
reach the final of the Copa del Generalísimo on June 29, 1973, which they ended up
losing 2-0 to Athletic Club.
After 100 years of life, a new phase begins in 2022, after the sale of the club to the
Greek-Canadian Haralabos Voulgaris. The new owner arrives with very clear ideas
and with the objective of returning CD Castellón to the first division of Spanish
football in a period of 6 or 7 years.
As for the members who made this audiovisual report, we formed a couple before
the delivery of the proposal in the second round, because after changing our minds after the first round, we decided that making an audiovisual report on a very
interesting subject for both of us and for the city of Castellón, was the best option.
We had no doubts and making an audiovisual report about CD Castellón was the
first and only idea we sounded out because, as we have insisted before, it is a
subject of great importance in Castellón due to the great interest the team arouses in
the city.
Despite the complexity of the subject, we wanted to carry out the report and thus live
the experience of creating a journalistic product with depth and interest in Castellón
society.
The topic ''Rumbo al ascenso'' is a suitable choice for an academic work because it
offers the opportunity to analyze a real and concrete situation in the field of football
of a specific team. In this report we deal with the whole centenary season of CD
Castellón. From the purchase - sale of the club and the change of management,
through the sporting planning and the course of this beautiful journey during the
league matches to the end, leading CD Castellón to achieve the objective of playing
in the play-offs for promotion to the second division.
For this, we have relied on several sources of specialists who are dedicated to follow
and live the club's news on a daily basis. Journalists, people in charge of travel
management, fans and footballers.
Once the project was approved in the second round, we got down to work. First of
all, we set ourselves a series of objectives, which were as follows:
To make the current situation of CD Castellón visible.
- To analyse the project of the new ownership of CD Castellón.
- To innovate in the information provided by the traditional media.
- To cover CD Castellón's current affairs for one season.
- To demonstrate that we are capable of creating a quality audiovisual piece.
Once the objectives had been set, we started with the pre-production phase, the
most important one, as it is thanks to this that the optimum conditions are achieved
for the production of the audiovisual piece.
Next, we started with the filming plan and held the first meeting with our tutor, Pau
Fuster. We presented the sources we wanted to interview for the project and he
advised us to document them in order to carry them out in the best possible way.
Once this meeting was held, we started to contact the sources in order to interview
them. To do this, we began to reserve the necessary material, which could be
booked without any problem, for the dates planned, except at Easter to record some
plans of the Castalia stadium, so the recording was delayed for a few days.
The interviews were recorded during the production phase, as well as all the
necessary resource shots for the report. For the elaboration of these two important
parts of the report we had a meeting with our tutor Pau Fuster so that he could help
us with the interviews. He also advised us which shots he thought were the best for
us to use in our documentary. We also talked to him about the sources we had
chosen for the project and he guided us when it came to changing some sources
and telling us about others that were better suited to our audiovisual piece.
The documentary has been recorded with material from the UJI and the CD
Castellón, which has sometimes lent us the microphone and a tripod. We have only
had to spend money on petrol to travel to the Castalia stadium and to the trainings in
Oropesa del Mar.
Next, we go to the post-production phase. In this we visualized all the interviews and
the resource shots and we chose the best cuts to start assembling our report. The
first section we tackled in post-production was the ambient sound of each interview.
In the interviews that we used the lavalier microphone that the press department of
CD Castellón gave us, we didn't have to modify the audio as it was heard in an
optimal way. On the other hand, in the interviews that we used the handheld
microphone, we had to modify the sound, eliminating the noise, as for example in the
interview with Alberto Aicart. Our report is an informative documentary about the centenary season of CD
Castellón, so we thought that the most appropriate television space for the broadcast
was a sports programme. In this case, we think that the ideal programme to
broadcast our report is ''La Tribuna'', an informative, opinion, debate and current
sports programme about CD Castellón.
Finally, we end with a final assessment. On the one hand, we have learnt how to
prepare a storyboard and a script, we have improved our skills when interviewing the
protagonists and we have become familiar with the use of video cameras and all the
necessary material for the project.
We are very happy with the final result of our TFG, as we have fulfilled our goal of
making our Final Degree Project an experience that would teach us how to carry out
a professional level audiovisual report.
However, we think that we could improve the sound in some shots and interviews
and some aspects of the editing. [-]
