variables: Nota EXP2022, Nota ECOE2022, Nota MIR2023, procedencia, sexo y edad.
2 =0,484) con P-valor < 0,001. La nota

Objectives: The MIR exam is a demanding test that determines the specialty of doctors who
want to access it. Therefore, this study is aimed at observing how the various tests and grades
obtained in the medical degree influence the MIR system. Our objectives are to understand
the association of the ECOE and academic record in the MIR, that is, the correlation between
the ECOE test and the academic record grade in the MIR exam. We also want to analyze
whether the MIR exam adequately assesses practical training in medical school and what the
sixth-year ECOE test contributes. Finally, we want to check if there are differences between
genders for the results of the ECOE test and academic record.
Materials and methods: An observational analytical study was conducted with 71 sixth-year
students in the medical degree at Jaume I University who took the ECOE test during the 2021-
2022 academic year at the General University Hospital of Castellón de la Plana (HGUC) and of
whom 62 subsequently took the MIR exam. The variables included were: EXP2022 grade,
ECOE2022 grade, MIR2023 grade, origin, gender and age. The SPSS software was used for
statistical analysis. A series of descriptive statistics, T-tests for independent samples, Pearson
and Spearman correlation systems, scatter plots, coefficient tables and linear regressions
were carried out.
Results: The result of the ECOE together with the academic record grade explains 58% of the
MIR exam grade with a P-value <= 0.001. The academic record in the MIR grade alone has a
more significant influence of 48% (r2 = 0.484) with a P-value < 0.001 The grade obtained in the
ECOE is not useful for predicting the MIR grade, 0.02% (r2 = 0.002) with a P-value >= 0.724.
There are no significant differences in the average grade of the ECOE and academic record by
sex. P-value > 0.05 (0.31) and (0.97) respectively.
Conclusions: This study suggests a strong association between the MIR grade and the
academic record of the degree alone. The ECOE test is not useful for predicting the MIR grade.
The MIR exam poorly assesses practical training. No differences were found between genders
in the average grades of academic records and the ECOE test. [-]
