This article focuses on analysing how reason, rationality and utility of enlightened cul-ture and philosophy permeate the construction of the hegemonic masculinity that is forged in this era to become an essential part of the construction of the «man of good will» that is present throughout Modernity. Likewise, it shows how these elements are still present in the collective imagination of today’s Western society through different stereotypes such as the “self-made man” that shows how, in the present, they continue to be heirs of an entire system of values and beliefs that arise from the eighteenth century.
