datos: Medline, PubMed, PubPsych, PsyInfo y PsycArticles. Se incluyeron los
artículos que contenían las siguientes palabras clave: “elderly”, “well-being”,
“quality of life”, “vital satisfaction”, “social support” y “nursing home”.

The aim of this study is to review the current state of research on well-being and
quality of life in institutionalized older people. Following a systematic review of the scientific literatura (prisma method) from 2014 to 2020 of the articles included
in the following databases was carried out: medline, PubMed, PubPsych, PsyInfo
and PsycArticles. Articles that included the following keywords “elderly”, “wellbeing”,
“quality of life”, “vital satisfaction”, “social support” and “nursing home”.
The inclusion criteria for the selection of articles were: a) well-being and/or quality
of life variables, b) institutionalised elderly people, c) English or Spanish language,
and d) the objective of the article had to be an evaluation or intervention
on the target variables. Of the 473 studies found, only seven met the inclusion
criteria and were analysed. The research results provided a current overview of
well-being and quality of life in institutionalised older people. In particular, that
variables such as participation in activities, social relationships, positive attitudes
and physical environment have a positive impact on well-being and quality of life.
We should be noted that, the existence of two limitations: on the one hand, the
heterogeneity of the instruments used in the articles analysed and, on the other
hand, the lack of emphasis on the influence exerted by the participation of professionals
and family members on the quality of life and well-being of institutionalised
elderly people. [-]
