Abstract

This article analyses how the principle of active transparency of public institutions and the right of access to information have been affected dur‐ ing the emergency context in Spain. We deal, among other questions, with the functioning of the Spanish Transparency Portals during the health cri‐ sis, the role played by institutional communication and the mass media in the fight against the worrying disinformation to which citizens are ex‐ posed through the so‐called infodemic. The aim is to highlight the critical role that transparency and timely sharing of public information play for protecting public health, improving policy and decision‐making and safe‐ guarding democratic institutions.
