In this study we address the difficulties of public service interpreting, focusing on the healthcare sector, and how COVID-19 has affected this working field. This master's thesis is divided into three main sections. First, we present the theoretical framework which consists of four sections that go from general to specific content, in which we explain what interpreting is and frame healthcare interpreting. We also deal with the figure of the healthcare interpreters, their profile and competencies. Finally, we conclude the theoretical framework with our second major section which is dedicated to the COVID-19 and how this health crisis has affected our country, and in particular, the communication in the health field in medical centers of Gran Canaria. The last section of our master’s thesis focuses on our field study, in which we conducted interviews with health staff from several health centers and the two public hospitals on the island of Gran Canaria in order to find out the communication problems that have arisen as a result of the health crisis caused by COVID-19 and the opinion of the health professionals regarding the communication problems that may arise. In the last chapter we present the conclusions of this work. [-]
