(patológica vs. no patológica).

Generalized anxiety disorder is an emotional disorder characterized by an excessive and
uncontrollable worry, associated to other unspecific and significant symptoms. At present,
there are several accepted theoretical approaches of the disorder that have empirical support.
Some of the most important theories propose different clinical variables as central in the
etiology and maintenance of the disorder: intolerance of uncertainty (IU), experiential
avoidance (EA) and difficulties in emotion regulation (ER). Nevertheless, difficulties in ER
define all emotional disorders (ED), being the main transdiagnostic factor, and both IU and EA
have been proposed as other possible common underlying mechanisms to ED. The present
study had as main goal to analyze the relationship between difficulties in ER and both
transdiagnostic factors mentioned previously in function of levels of worry (pathologic vs. no
pathologic). According to the reviewed literature, it was expected to find a significant direct
association between difficulties in ER and both IU and EA in both groups. In general terms,
the results showed the expected significant positive association between the variables, so that
individuals with greater difficulties in ER exhibited greater levels of IU and EA, both in people
with pathological worry and in people with low worry. Furthermore, predictably, the high
worry group showed significative greater levels of IU, EA and difficulties in ER that the low
worry group. [-]
