Fracture of the distal end of the radius is one of the most common fractures in adults,
corresponding to 18% of total fractures. It shows two peaks of incidence, one in the young
population due to a high energy mechanism and another peak in the older population due to
a low energy mechanism, falling from height itself, most of the time due to the presence of
osteoporosis.
The treatment of this type of fracture is varied and the choice of the most appropriate
treatment depends on several factors, such as the type of fracture, the patient's age, the
activity of the patient or as yet mentioned, the presence of osteoporosis.
Due to the high level of incidence and the lack of clear guidelines on the correct
choice of treatment, there is a need for a Clinical Practice Guideline to guide professionals,
since a correct choice of treatment reduces complications.
This Final Degree Project consists of the preparation of this guide, through
bibliographic searches of the best possible evidence, in order to apply it to the Orthopaedic
Surgery and Traumatology service of the Hospital General Universitario de Castellón, with
the aim of standardising the most appropriate management for patients who present this type
of fracture. [-]
