We can not ignore that mobbing is becoming increasingly evident on a global level.
Although we do not want to be part of this phenomenon, many times, it’s inevitable due
to pressure wield by social groups. Even if it is true it has existed forever and it had its
boom in the 80’s on the European Continent. Currently, the number of victims has
grown significantly in numbers, expanding so that it has become a pandemic in the
21st century, according to different authors such as Arbonés Hilda, psychologist and
expert in knowledge about mobbing.
Following Leymann, the best known international expert, who is considered to be the
first researcher and the first to provide us with a clear definition of mobbing, he
considers that mobbing develops gradually, with a minimum repetition of six months
and which increases constantly. This makes possible a serious impact on the individual
that often has no qualms about going unnoticed by hierarchical organizations and by
society itself.
Human beings can not avoid conflict situations at work because, on many occasions
they occur as a result of the tensions that can arise in a close group due to stress,
differences or misunderstandings. This is not something they should run away from
since it is necessary, since thanks to the correct conflict resolution, workers manifest
values that enhance the company and manage to move towards communication where
assertiveness and tolerance prevail.
However, it is also something characteristic of the human being to connect but
unfortunately they do not fit into the respective social groups. Here it is where “by not
fitting into the work setting” mobbing would operate focused on psychologically
destroying a person for no reason or cause that proves that the person affected
receives such the same feedback from another individual. This is not about “not fitting”
but behind this occupational illness called “mobbing” hides the perversity of its
perpetrator to crush competent workers.
The reason why a stalker starts the harassment is difficult to define since there are
several factors that facilitate its appearance. From my point of view, we are not facing
an issue whose cause is unique, but we must consider the situational factors that allow
the development of this conflict.
His project is raised from a criminological perspective; Thus, it can be affirmed that the
occupational illness called “mobbing” constitutes a crime perpetrated by society and
this one understood as a collective. It would be a disease that lies in the very citizen
education characterized by a teaching based on competition and capitalism. Similarly,
the emergence and innovation of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies)
has also promoted the increase in narcissism and rivalry among ourselves with the
entry “on the scene” of social networks.
These new values are assumed by the strong processes of socialization and
psychological involvement, so that they become so intrinsic in our personality that we
do not grasp such influence. In this context, I will discuss the theory of the basic
attribution error needed to understand the interpretation and actions of the parties
involved in the phases of this phenomenon.
Human beings consider that we make decisions and act based on our free will, but
what we ignore is that many times we act based on the influences that surround us to
which we are constantly exposed. The same is evident in the mobbing context; it may
happen that an individual not wanting to differ from their workmates, ends up acting like
them and not how they really wanted, in other words, this is not based on their own
criteria and principles.
Apart from the aforementioned, there are more influencing factors such as the
organization and culture of companies, which are factors or situations that explain the
origin of this horrible occupational illness called “mobbing”.
In order to combat this destructive behaviour classified as a social and cultural disease,
I proceeded to expose its main causes, emphasizing the criminological perspective. [-]
