OBJECTIVES: The objective of this Final Degree Project is to know if the phytohormone Abscisic Acid can be used as an antioxidant nutraceutical tool that helps in maintaining
the oxidative balance of the eye.
DESIGN: Systematic review.
METHODS: All relevant literature found in Pubmed, WOS, SCIELO, SCOPUS and
Cochrane was used: Original studies, written in English and investigating Abscisic Acid in
diseases related to oxidative-type imbalances, and more specifically in eye pathologies.
RESULTS: From the 4 studies that underwent the meta-analysis, it was observed how
Abscisic Acid can be used as a treatment in eye diseases derived from oxidative damage,
such as Retinal angiogenesis, Ischemic retinopathies or Diabetic retinopathy.
CONCLUSIONS: ABA is a phytohormone with antioxidant properties that offers solutions to pathologies which appear as a consequence of the loss of the oxidative balance. There
are ocular pathologies with etiology in oxidative damage: cataracts, glaucoma, liquefaction
of the vitreous, diabetic retinopathy. ABA can be used in diseases derived from ischemic retinopathy and angiogenic pathology of the retina. More studies need to be done to see if it can
also be used in other eye pathologies stemming from conditions where ABA is already used,
such diabetes, and some other inflammatory illnesses. [-]
OBJETIVOS: El objetivo del presente Trabajo Fin de Grado es el de conocer si la fitohormona Acido Abscísico puede ser usado como herramienta nutracéutica antioxidante que ayude en el mantenimiento del equilibrio ... [+]
OBJETIVOS: El objetivo del presente Trabajo Fin de Grado es el de conocer si la fitohormona Acido Abscísico puede ser usado como herramienta nutracéutica antioxidante que ayude en el mantenimiento del equilibrio oxidativo del ojo.
DISEÑO: ˜ Revision sistemática. ´
MÉTODOS: ´ Se utilizó toda literatura encontrada en Pubmed, WOS, SCIELO, SCOPUS y Cochrane: Estudios originales en ingles y que investigaran el Ácido Abscísico en enfermedades relacionadas con desequilibrios de tipo oxidativo y mas específicamente en patologías oculares.
RESULTADOS: Los 4 artículos revisados en metaanalisis muestran que el Ácido Abscísico es útil como tratamiento en enfermedades oculares por daño oxidativo, como la Angiogénesis de la retina, las Retinopatías isquemicas o la Retinopatía diabetica.
CONCLUSIONES: El ABA es una fitohormona con propiedades antioxidantes que ofrece soluciones a patologías que aparecen a consecuencia de la perdida del equilibrio oxidativo. Existen patologíass oculares con etiología en el daño oxidativo: cataratas, glaucoma, licuefacción del vítreo, retinopatía diabetica. El ABA puede usarse en enfermedades derivadas de la retinopatía isquemica y la patología angiogenica de la retina. Deben realizarse más estudios para ver si tambien puede ser usado en otras patologías oculares derivadas de patolgías en las que ya se usa el ABA, como para la diabetes o ciertas enfermedades de tipo inflamatorio.
