Psychopathy is a psychological construct that historically has given rise to many controversies in its own definition; the most recent explicative theory is the triarchic
model, which considers boldness, meanness and disinhibition as the main components of psychopathy. The most used instrument to assess the corporate psychopath is
the PCL-R, created from criminal samples, although it is accepted by the scientific community for use in the general population, not only criminal. The aim of this study is to
identify traits of the corporate psychopath and to see how they act as leaders in some corporations and how they affect —directly or indirectly— their employees, or
workmates if they are not leaders. A qualitative systematic review was made using the Scopus database, using "corporat*" and "psychopathy" as search elements in the
"title, abstract and keyword" fields, finally using 23 studies. From the review of the studies it has been observed that, almost entirely, corporate psychopaths are quite
dangerous for their companies because they are prone to create or exacerbate conflict situations, and by bullying, harassment or manipulating their workmates or
employees worsen their satisfaction; also, they are able to take unnecessary risks and use their co-workers to achieve their goals without any moral charge. Furthermore,
as leaders, they hardly ever motivate their employees, they are also characterized by abusive and controlling supervision and they very rarely act as transformational
leaders, thus minimizing the creative capacity of their employees and causing some of them to suffer burnout. Consequently, based on the review carried out, it is
proposed that the instruments for evaluating and identifying corporate psychopaths should be improved, or even, that new tools should be created, to keep corporate
psychopaths away from their companies, thus improving job satisfaction and performance of their co-workers or employees. [-]
