Nowadays, HIV/AIDS is still one of the world's most significant public health challenges. According to the Carlos III Health
Institute (2019), in Spain from the beginning of the epidemic until 2019 a total of 88,135 AIDS cases have been reported.
However, the mortality and morbidity have been reduced, but social repercussions still exist. In addition, HIV does not affect
men and women in the same way due to the fact that women are most affected by being prejudged and rejected. The aim
of this study is to analyze the differences between the quality of life and psychological well being in men and women
diagnosed with HIV and also analyze these factors according to the time of infection. To carry out this study, various
organizations of Spain that work with patients with HIV/AIDS were contacted in order to request their collaboration.
Participation was voluntary and anonymous through the online questionnaire ‘’Google Forms’’, all patients give their
informed consent and they completed the Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36) (McHorney, Ware & Raczek, 1993) and the
Psychological Well Being Scale (Ryff et al., 2007). The study included 88 seropositive patients, 63 men and 25 women
(M=47,08; SD=11,41). Results: The quality of life perceived by men is better (M=113,7; DT=16,30) compared with the quality
of life in women (M= 98,36; DT=16,99) (t=-3,933; p ≤ 0,001). Nevertheless, there are not differences between men (M=70,6;
DT=8,50) and women (M=71,84; DT=11,29) in their psychological well being (t=0,559; p=0,578). According to the time of
infection, people who know for longer that they have HIV do not show a better quality of life (F=2,174; p=0,097) or a better
psychological well being (F= 0,446, p=0,721) than those who have find out more recently. In conclusion, gender differences
exist in the quality of life but not in the psychological well being, this can be attributed to the self-imposed expectations and
to the introspective capacity. However, the time of infection is not as relevant. Consequently, psychological therapies should
be designed with a gender perspective and they should be performed during the whole process of infection. [-]

psicológico (Ryff et al., 2007). Participaron 88 pacientes seropositivos, 63 hombres y 25 mujeres (M=47,08;
DT=11,41).
infección, no existen diferencias ni en la calidad de vida (F=2,174; p=0,097) ni en el bienestar psicológico (F= 0,446;
