Valencia. Per a Valencia tot’ fon són lema. Fundador de Lo Rat Penat l’any 1878.”
relieve.” [-]

On the 31 st of July 1928, at noon, a large group of members of the cultural
association Lo Rat Penat headed towards Jardins de Vivers Garden accompanied
by the Valencian flag. They were to attend the inauguration of a monument erected
in memory of Constantí Llombart, the founder of their association, fifty years after
it was created back in 1878. The mayor of the city, together with other members of
the local government, was also present. The newspaper Las Provincias (3), at the
time run by the son of Teodoro Llorente, another great historical figure in the
Renaixença Valenciana period, reported that the monument, a bust of the writer,
had been made by one of his disciples, the poet and sculptor Ramon Andrés
Cabrelles. The bust was placed on top of a bat, the emblem of the city, and its coat
of arms. The following inscription was added: “Tot s’ho mereix Valencia. Per a
Valencia tot’ fon són lema. Fundador de Lo Rat Penat l’any 1878”. On that very
same day, Miquel Duran (5) wrote, also in Las Provincias, that Llombart had been
“one of the first valencianistes [Valencian nationalists]”, highlighting the role of the
1868 revolution and how it had made Llobart start his political career when he
joined a student association called Juventud Republicana, formed mainly by bright,
outstanding individuals. [-]
