dc.description.abstract	Municipal solid waste has increased dramatically last years in European countries. Several reports issued from the Environmental European Agency and Eurostat highlight this fact. Packaging and Packaging Waste account for a third of this waste. Therefore, the European Commission has launched a set of measures to minimize the generation of this waste and to improve its management. Since the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (94/62/EC) in 1994, numerous measures have been introduced in the Member States to promote the prevention, re-use, recycling and recovery of packaging waste. This paper describes the regulatory framework concerning the packaging waste management policy in the European Union and the domestic policies carried out by the Member States.
