The aim of this paper is to analyze the gender pay gap existence in the Spanish labour market in the last few years. For that purpose, the inequality in the labour market is introduced as the main cause of gender wage discrimination. Through the gender discrimination evolution in the labour market it is noted how women have joined the labour market and in which working sector. Then, are discussed the different factors that can cause gender wage inequality, such as the time spent in workplace, the employment in the different working sectors by gender and the difficulties faced by women for promotion in jobs with greater responsibilities. This analysis is done with collected data about earnings per hour, education level
attained by the population, the employment rate both male and female, and unemployment rate by gender and reason. It is analyzed the main inequality index, and this is compared with the remaining countries of the European Union. [-]
