The present study offers an original teaching proposal on mobile-assisted language learning.
After reviewing several papers and finding out that most of the literature regarding this type of
learning proposals only use it as a secondary reinforcement tool in short periods of time instead
of building a whole teaching proposal that benefits from the characteristics of MALL, the need
for that proposal was identified. To satisfy that need, a mobile application that serves as a pillar
with which to build the course was chosen. Several applications were analysed to finally select
Duolingo because of its unique features that will facilitate the teaching of the lessons and will
give teachers the tools they need to check students’ progress without incrementing their
workload. Moreover, a proposal for a whole lesson using Duolingo as an overarching element is
offered explaining the benefits of using this application. In addition to the proposal, there are
several ideas for activities that do not use Duolingo and are intended to enrich the students’
experience giving a well-rounded education and linking education to their environment. Finally,
the limitations of the present work are explained and several ideas for further investigation that
could expand on the topic are suggested. [-]
