Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most prevalent
neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents. It is characterized by symptoms
such as impulsivity and inattention, among others. To treat ADHD, Methylphenidate (MPH) is
prescribed, which is a psychostimulant drug. This study aims to investigate whether this drug
is really suitable for treating executive functions such as inhibitory control of behaviour,
working memory and mental flexibility, since in research there is a contrast between different
investigations. To this end, a bibliographic review has been carried out, through various
databases such as PubMed, Medline, Psycarticles and Google Academic, focusing on the
articles that were most relevant to the subject once the inclusion and exclusion criteria had
been applied. The final articles indicate a positive assessment of MPH and demonstrate a
significant improvement in a minimum period of three months of treatment in all the tests
used. The results indicate that children who comply with treatment are faster in arithmetic
aspects, quicker in finding correct solutions and have fewer errors, so it can be concluded
that MPH is a good treatment for children with ADHD. In addition, much research
emphasizes the importance of combining drug therapy (through the administration of MPH)
with cognitive-behavioral therapy. [-]

cognitivo-conductual. [-]
