Throughout this work is intended to see if the hypothesis that the temperature and the
number of sunlight hours that a city has are influential factors in the commission of a
crime is fulfilled. Therefore, our study has had as a geographical base the city of
Castellón de la Plana. Thus, the analyzed data are the telephone calls made by
citizens which were received by the local police of Castellón during the years 2012 and
2013, respectively, being its purpose to give notice of the occurrence of possible
crimes. In order to confirm or deny this research, first we began by explaining the
criminology concept and its main theories of why people commit crimes. Next, the
concept of the Thermal Laws of Adolphe Quetelet and the relationship it has with our
study is introduced. Then, the research is carried out, analyzing separately every
month of the year and later taking the warmest and coldest months of each year.
Finally, in the conclusions we clarify if our hypothesis is confirmed or ends up being
erroneous. [-]
